Held Over Labor Day weekend (date varies year-to-year), The Hog Capital Of The World Festival celebrates the naming of Kewanee as the Hog Capital Of The World by the Illinois Assembly in the 50's. There is a carnival, parade, flea market and a whole lot more. Their claim to fame is the world's largest pork chop bar-b-q, usually selling between 25 and 35,000 pork chop sandwiches over the Labor Day weekend. Kewanee is a town of about 13000 people and just 50 miles north of Peoria, IL. The festival was first held in the 50's and has been a continuous celebration ever since.
